Birthday Week

We celebrated Anne and Edgar’s birthday today with two cakes.

Anne and I started a tradition at Fiore that we take time to have a small birthday party whenever anyone has a birthday. Edgar is one of our newer employees and turns out his birth date is the 19th. Anne is the 18th and Fiore Market Cafe is the 20th.

Anne and I would like to thank all of you for your support over the last two years. It’s amazing how  time has flown by. Seems like only yesterday. We are grateful for all of you.

I was joking the other day that before we opened Fiore Market Cafe we didn’t know anyone in South Pasadena. That has definitely changed. We have so many great friends and so many regulars that we see on a daily basis. It has been a lot of fun getting to know you.

Thanks again. We look forward to a fantastic 2013

tuscan kale

The garden is really doing well. I harvested this kale yesterday. The raddicchio seeds I planted last week sprouted yesterday. Looking forward to using freshly grown raddicchio in our deli salads and in the vegan lavash wrap.

Fiore Time

046Christmas is almost here and so is the rain. Business is slow giving us time to make jams and seasoning salts  and to tend to the garden. I normally love the rain, but with our dining room completely exposed i don’t like it too much. Our crops sure do. The cauliflower and broccoli are rising tall They are firm and healthy and should be ready to harvest in a few weeks. I laid seeds on  Monday in 3 of the beds. I scattered, fennel, ciccoria and raddicchio seeds. We use lots of raddicchio so I am hopeful we’ll reap a nice crop.
