A Beautiful Day at Fiore

I rode my bike to the metro this morning. Left the house at 6:00 am after moving my son’s car for the street cleaner. It’s a fairly strenuous ride to the metro although it’s not very far, but I haven’t ridden much lately and I am getting older. The metro is sooo convenient. I sat with my bike next to me and listened to Pandora. If you haven’t tried  Pandora I recommend that you do. It’s fantastic.

I was at work by 7am. I formed my 12 loaves of bread. I laid them out on parchment, sprinkled with cornmeal and covered them with towels.

Break time. For me a morning is not complete without  very very strong coffee. I start with a double espresso and top it with a small amount of steamed milk. Today I was hungry after the ride. I grilled a few slices of bread left over from the day before. We never use day old bread for sandwiches, but I do grill it and smother it with one of Lemonbird’s wonderful jams. Today it was blood orange. I like to sprinkle it with coarse sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil. Call me strange, but it’s really good like this. Here is a photograph of my breakfast.

I am using the instagram app on the i-phone.

Some of my new favorite things

We have been using these purple potatoes lately. The color is amazing. The deep purple color fades as they cook, but they’re still terrific. I  made a vegetable beef soup for Monday using an assortment of potatoes and some of these are included.
